Marcela's photographic practice involves capturing both public and abandoned spaces, often manipulating these images in the darkroom or digitally before projecting them back into the environments where they were taken.
Her focus is on desolate urban areas that have been depopulated by the pervasive influence of mass media. In these spaces, she discovers a unique rhythm—one of chance—that reveals unimagined facets of the city. These locations, often hidden between buildings, exist at odds with the vibrancy of everyday life, resembling "blind places" that seem to lead nowhere.
Photography was chosen for its distance from expressionist techniques like drawing and painting, where the artist's hand is evident. In Marcela's work, the expressive elements typical of drawings fade away. Instead, she begins with superimposed negatives, allowing new images to emerge through processes of chance and transformation.
